Maria Vittoria Calvi, Full Professor of Spanish Language at the University of Milan and corresponding member of the Royal Spanish Academy, has extensive experience in research and university teaching. She was president of the Italian association of Hispanists AISPI (2013–2017) and editor of the journal Cuadernos AISPI. Estudios de lenguas y literaturas hispánicas from its founding in 2013 until 2021. She is the author of numerous studies in Spanish linguistics, with particular attention to contrastive Spanish–Italian linguistics (Didattica di lingue affini. Spagnolo e italiano, 1995), languages for specific purposes and, especially, the language of tourism (Lengua y comunicación en el español del turismo, 2006; “Los géneros discursivos en la lengua del turismo: una propuesta de clasificación”, 2010; “Guía de viaje y turismo 2.0: Los borrosos confines de un género”, 2016; “Géneros discursivos, diversidad cultural y traducción de textos turísticos”, 2019). Her more recent lines of research include contact between Spanish and Italian in migration contexts, linguistic landscape (“Paisajes lingüísticos hispánicos: panorama de estudios y nuevas perspectivas”, 2018) and medical discourse (“La voz del experto y la voz del paciente en la narración de la pandemia: la construcción discursiva de la COVID persistente”, 2022). In literature, her work has focused on contemporary fiction and above all on the work of Carmen Martín Gaite and Luis Mateo Díez. She has published two volumes of unpublished manuscripts by the Salamanca-born author, Cuadernos de todo (2002) and El libro de la fiebre (2007). In her book La palabra y la voz en la narrativa española actual (Carmen Martín Gaite, Luis Mateo Díez) (2020) she brought together a selection of her studies on both authors.
