She heads the HUM-1108 TRADIES research group and the TRADITUR International Conference. Her research deals with the history of scientific and technical translation, paratextuality and specialised translation (biomedical, agri-food and tourism).
Manuela Álvarez Jurado is Full Professor of Translation and Interpreting at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Córdoba. She directs the HUM 1108 TRADIES research group (Translation and Specialised Discourse) at the University of Córdoba and collaborates with the research group on the History of Scientific and Technical Translation from French into Spanish (Histradcyt) at the University of Valencia. She is a member of the Language and Science Thematic Network and of the International Research Network in Specialised Translation and Interpreting (RIITEI).
She teaches on the degree in Translation and Interpreting and on the master’s degree in Specialised Translation, both at the University of Córdoba, and on the master’s degree in Institutional Translation at the University of Alicante. She chairs the TRADITUR International Conference (Translation and Tourism Discourse) held at the University of Córdoba. She has supervised numerous doctoral theses on legal and institutional translation, humanistic and literary translation, and scientific and technical translation. Internationally, she collaborates regularly with the Sorbonne, Université Paris Cité and the Institut de Management et de Communication Interculturels (ISIT) in Paris.
The author of numerous publications in high-impact journals and publishing houses, she has edited several monographs. Her lines of research are the History of Scientific and Technical Translation, Paratextuality and Translation, Retranslation, and specialised translation in the biomedical, agri-food and tourism fields.
