Susana María Ramírez Martín holds a PhD in American History from the Complutense University and a master’s degree in Archival Science from Carlos III University. Her research on the Balmis Vaccine Expedition, the subject of her doctoral thesis, earned her a research award and led to her participation in the National Commission set up by the Spanish Ministry of Health to commemorate the bicentenary of that medical expedition. She has always been involved in teaching: for twelve years she taught Geography and History at upper-secondary level, and since 2003 she has taught General Archival Science, Records Management and Corporate Archives at Carlos III University in Getafe and Colmenarejo.
